Supplementing my income or another feather to my bow?

There is a cake decorating supply shop near me where I often go to pick up cake boards, boxes, sprinkles and random tools which I never know I need until I see them and then cannot possible live without - kinda like the bakers equivalent to IKEA Marketplace! Every time I go in there, the owner is super chatty, and it didn't take many visits for me to hear her life story and for her to start displaying leaflets on the counter advertising Wendy Bakes.

A couple of weeks ago she told me that she wants to open a café in a corner of the shop, and that she wants to stock my cakes made without gluten. Then she proceeded to offer me a job getting said café off the ground and potentially running it.

Now, I am self aware enough to know that one of my weaknesses is my struggle with saying no! I do have a tendency to take on too much, to overstretch myself, and get myself into situations where I barely give myself enough hours in the day to wee, sleep or eat. I am trying to learn the skill of declining - but hey, I'm 50 and fear it may be too late for me now!

So obviously I said yes - but at least I added conditions! Whilst Wendy Bakes grows a wider customer base, I have agreed to work in the café for 3 days per week. I can still work on developing my own business, and give myself time to do the baking that I love, but I hope this will grow into my own built-in stockist and who knows what other opportunities it might bring. I am still working in broadly the same ball-park, even if I have slightly deviated from the original game in hand, and networking opportunities might also come my way.

Sometimes life takes deviated turns, and we get to see unexpected sights slightly off from the path we intended to travel and sometimes saying yes is just the right response! I hope this is one of those fortuitous occasions.
