Flew too close to the sun...

If you read my previous blog post about feathers in caps (29.03.2024), you will know that I took a PT job in a cake supply shop, despite some initial reservations. Well, I am here to tell you that my wings got well and truly clipped early doors. After just 2 weeks of not really doing what I thought I was being employed to do, and instead packing orders and wondering how such a disorganised business could possibly survive, the landlord of the premises terminated the contract, the shop closed and the business has moved on-line. So goodbye café plans, and goodbye job for me!

I have to admit, it has been a knock to my confidence, especially since I am now struggling to get paid for the 2 weeks work which I did for them which makes me feel un-valued and bit stupid if I am honest. It has left me a tad bruised and bit deflated.

As a person who has always previously worked for large and reputable employers, it has been a learning curve to me that there are small businesses out there willing to operate in ways that have no regard to the well-being of their employees - both the café I worked in last year, and now the decorating supplier both took me on with no long term plan of whether they could afford to maintain my salary - which in both cases they could not! And for the record - I'm not even expensive!!! I can see why 'working for the man' can be attractive, because taking a risk with smaller business is just that - a risk which has burnt my fingers twice now.

So I am picking myself back up, I am dusting myself back off and I am giving my own tail feathers a good old shake! Focusing again on getting my own Wendy Bakes ducks in a row and growing my own business...and in case you were wondering, not taking on any additional staff members just yet!
