Duck, Duck, Goose - actually, just more ducks.

The White Horse Public House in Birstall (one of my favourite stockists of WendyBakes) holds an annual Charity Duck Race on May Bank Holiday every year. Essentially it is a massive game of Pooh Sticks, played with rubber ducks rather than sticks. They are supported by Leicester Outdoor Pursuit Centre, who paddle around on the river in canoes, rescuing stray ducks from the weeds and river banks and of course ensuring that all of the ducks make it safely to dry land at the end of the race. Literally hundreds of ducks take part, and the money raised goes to both the LOPC and other local causes. It is quite a sight watching all the duckies swimming along whilst being cheered on by their human sponsors who line the river banks.

This year, I was asked if I would like to donate some bakes to the event, so of course I just had to make my contribution duck themed! I made a batch of duck shaped biscuits and wrote 'quack' on each one. Then I got rather ambitious, and decided to make a tray of marshmallow crispy squares, which I topped with white chocolate which I had marbled through with blue food colouring, and then I modelled mini ducklings out of fondant to each sit in their own little pond. This seemed like SUCH a good idea at the start of the project...but 16 ducks later I was beginning to regret my decision!

Next year, they might get 2 batches of biscuits instead! Or is this my sign to start googling "silicone duck mould" in anticipation? You never know when one might come in handy!
